Archaeological Museum

The Archaeological Museum grew out of the Museum of Polish and Slavic Antiquities, founded in 1857 at the Poznań Society of Friends of Learning. It is housed in the Górka Palace on ul. Wodna, right next to the Old Market Square. The palace, partly destroyed in the war, was rebuilt until 1968, and in the same year the permanent exhibition “Prehistory of Greater Poland” opened here.

What to see

The permanent exhibition on the prehistory of Greater Poland, from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages.

An exhibition on ancient Egypt, and collections from the archaeology of Sudan.

Good to know

The museum also runs the Genius Loci Archaeological Reserve on Ostrów Tumski, opened in 2012. It has multimedia presentations and reconstructions of the medieval fortifications of the stronghold. A combined ticket for both sites is available; details are on the museum's websites.

The last entry is half an hour before closing.
