Armament Museum

The Armament Museum is in Cytadela Park, in the remains of the 19th-century Fort Winiary. It is a branch of the Greater Poland Independence Museum with a large collection of military equipment, including tanks and aircraft in the open air.

What to see

An open-air park of military equipment: a dozen or so military vehicles and aircraft, among them tanks and self-propelled guns.

Wikipedia lists among the most valuable exhibits a Soviet BM-13 “Katyusha” rocket launcher on a 1944 Studebaker truck chassis, a T-34/85 tank and an ISU-122 self-propelled gun. The interiors of the last two are sometimes opened on selected holidays and events.

The permanent exhibition “Za mundurem panny sznurem” (“Maidens follow the uniform”) shows uniforms, weapons and equipment of Polish formations.

History

Fort Winiary was built by the Prussians in 1828–1842. In the 1960s the fort was largely demolished and a park of 100 hectares was laid out on its site.

The museum was established in the 1960s. Since 1998 it has been called the Armament Museum. Earlier it operated, among other names, as the Museum of the Liberation of the City of Poznań and then as the Museum of the Poznań Citadel.

Good to know

The “Poznań” Army Museum operates in the same park. A combined ticket for both museums costs PLN 20 (reduced PLN 12).

On Tuesdays admission to the museum is free. A guided tour requires advance booking and costs PLN 70 in Polish and PLN 90 in English. A museum lesson costs PLN 100. Tickets can also be bought online at tobilet.pl.

According to a museum announcement of June 2025 the site is open 10:00–17:00, and the last entry is at 16:30. The museum is sometimes closed during large events in the park, so check the announcements on its website before your visit.

Getting there (according to the ZTM timetable of 10 October 2026): trams 4 and 19 (stop Murawa) and 3, 4, 10 and 19 (stop Pasieka), or buses to the stops Urząd Marszałkowski, Winogrady, Armii Poznań and Grochowe Łąki. Free parking is by the park, with entry from ul. Garbary.
