Poznań Fotoplastikon

The Fotoplastikon is a 19th-century device for viewing stereophotographs, that is, photographs that look three-dimensional through an eyepiece. The first such apparatus was built by August Fuhrmann, and the device was first put into operation in 1883.

History

The Fotoplastikon came to Poznań after the Second World War. From 1982 to 2005 it stood in the gallery of the photographer Antoni Rut on Święty Marcin Street.

In 2014, thanks to Antoni Rut's cooperation with the city, the device became municipal property. Since that year it has stood in the Arkadia building on ul. Ratajczaka.

What to see

Temporary themed exhibitions of stereoscopic photographs. The captions are in Polish, English and Ukrainian.
