Karol Marcinkowski Monument

The monument to Karol Marcinkowski, physician and social activist, stands where Aleje Marcinkowskiego meets ul. 23 Lutego. It was unveiled in 2005.

About the monument

It was designed by the Gdańsk sculptor Stanisław Radwański. Marcinkowski stands in a long coat of the period, with a cane in his hand, on a tall granite plinth.

The inscription on the plinth reads: “Karol Marcinkowski – creator of organic work”.

Good to know

Marcinkowski initiated the building of the Hotel Bazar, a centre of Polish life in 19th-century Poznań.

Next to it are the Dolphin Fountain and the post office building. A second monument to Marcinkowski stands in front of the 1st Secondary School on ul. Bukowska.
