Zyga the Lamplighter Monument

Zyga, in Poznań dialect short for Zygmunt, is a fictional lamplighter. His bronze figure stands on the square by ul. Grobla, next to the Old Gasworks.

About the monument

The monument was unveiled on 29 May 2003. It came out of the “Let's Save the Lamps” campaign run by “Gazeta Wyborcza” and the gasworks, which was meant to save the historic gas lamps of Poznań.

The sculptor is Robert Sobociński. Part of the composition is an original, restored gas lamp moved from ul. Słowackiego in Jeżyce.
