Taschner's Well

Taschner's Well stands in the courtyard of the Museum of World Cultures at ul. Mostowa 7. It is one of the lesser-known but very original fountains.

History

It was unveiled in 1908 in the courtyard of today's City Hall on Kolegiacki Square. It was designed by the Berlin sculptor Ignatius Taschner.

In 1965 the well was dismantled and put into storage at the Citadel. Thanks to a collection by the Society for the Care of Monuments it was restored and in 1992 set up in its present place.

What to see

A column in an octagonal basin: at the bottom grotesque masks, above them children on dolphins, and at the top a boy hugging a large fish.

Reliefs on the walls of the basin showing different ways of using water.
