Sights and history

Royal Castle

The castle on Przemysł Hill was probably built in the 13th century on the initiative of Przemysł II. His father, Przemysł I, may have started the work. After the destruction of 1945 the castle was rebuilt twice, most recently in 2010–2013.

About the place

Its present look is the result of two reconstructions: in 1959–1964 and in 2010–2013.

Since 26 June 2016 visitors can climb the viewing tower, which offers a view over the city.

What to see

The Museum of Decorative Arts (a branch of the National Museum) occupies almost 1,500 m². It shows about 2,000 objects from the Middle Ages to the present day: furniture, ceramics, glass and jewellery.

After the exhibition you can go up the 43-metre tower with its viewing terrace.

Viewing tower

The tower has two terraces: a covered one at a height of 30 metres and an open one right at the top. Both give a panorama of Poznań and its surroundings.

Almost 200 steps lead to the top. You can also take a lift to the covered terrace.

Up to 25 people can stay on the terrace at one time. In bad weather the open terrace is closed.
