Zielonka Forest Landscape Park

The Zielonka Forest Landscape Park is one of the largest forest complexes of central Greater Poland, only a few kilometres north-east of Poznań. It was established in 1993, covers 12,202 hectares, and its forest landscape is crossed by lakes and rivers.

Nature

The park protects one of the largest forest complexes of central Greater Poland, mostly covered with forest. There are five nature reserves on its territory: Lake Czarne, Lake Pławno, Klasztorne Modrzewie near Dąbrówka Kościelna, the Mixed Forest in the Łopuchówko Forest District, and Żywiec dziewięciolistny (the nine-leaved toothwort).

Seven lakes lie in the park (among them Czarne, Pławno and Bolechowskie), and the Warta, the Trojanka and the Struga Wierzenicka flow through it. Deer, wild boar, beavers, cranes and birds of prey live here.

What to see

Dziewicza Góra (143 m above sea level), the highest elevation near Poznań, with a fire lookout from which you can see the forest and the city.

The Trail of Wooden Churches around the Zielonka Forest: 12 historic churches in Kicin, Wierzenica, Uzarzewo, Węglewo, Sławno, Łagiewniki Kościelne, Kiszkowo, Jabłkowo, Raczkowo, Skoki, Rejowiec and Długa Goślina. The jewel of the trail is the church of St Nicholas in Wierzenica, one of the oldest in Greater Poland. Between Kicin and Wierzenica there are also carved wayside shrines of the Mysteries of the Rosary.

The Forest Arboretum in Zielonka, an educational centre of a natural sciences university, and educational paths around Zielonka.

Good to know

The park is open to everyone and admission is free. There are marked cycle routes in the park.

The churches on the trail are working churches. Before you enter, check that a service is not under way, or arrange a visit with the parish.
