Greater Poland National Park

The Greater Poland National Park was established on 16 April 1957 south of Poznań, between Luboń, Stęszew and Mosina. It covers about 7,584 hectares (75.84 km²). Its initiator, Prof. Adam Wodziczko, called the area a museum of glacial landforms and a living museum of nature.

Nature

The park protects a landscape shaped by the ice sheet: moraines, eskers, dunes and ribbon lakes. The Bukowsko-Mosiński Esker is 37 km long, the longest in Poland. In 18 strict-protection areas with a total area of 260 hectares nature develops without human interference.

What to see

Lake Góreckie with Castle Island. On it stand the ruins of a small castle that Tytus Działyński built in 1824–1825 for his sister Klaudyna Potocka.

Osowa Góra, the highest elevation in the park, and the educational trail “Osowa Góra – Jeziory” (5.5 km, about 3 hours one way).

The Foresters' Boulder by the car park at the Komorniki–Jeziory junction: an erratic boulder 4 m high and weighing about 20 tonnes, one of the largest near Poznań.

The Natural History Museum in Jeziory, at the park's headquarters.

Good to know

There is no charge for entering the park. Only the Natural History Museum is paid.

According to Wikipedia the park is visited by about 1.2 million people a year.

There are 9 car parks in the park. Eight are paid (parking meter or app), and the car park by Trzcielińskie Bagno is free.
